Raggy Dolls – Feel Good Fascia (Fascial release class) for all abilities – Free to attend :)

October 15 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

I (David Robertson, a Raggy) am describing Fascia from a user’s perspective, as opposed to a teacher’s (Emily Housman).

Fascia is like tendrils that contain, or sit around, the muscles in a human’s body. They can be turgid when hydrated, or rather shrivelled when not hydrated.

By using Fascial release, the tendrils are mobilised, and not only do they begin to feel healthier, but so does the class participant. Emily explained to me that Fascia has been around since humans, and its uses are more than we tend to know.

One use that sticks in my head is that when you sit down on a chair, you use your muscles; however, when you are in the sitting position, the fascia moulds itself to your shape and holds you in place, so your muscles do not get tired. When you stand up from a period of sitting you should perform some stretches to reform the Fascia into the new position. I sometimes think of the Fascia tendrils as an intra-skeleton (inside the body), as opposed to the skeleton proper or an exo-skeleton (outside the body).

Note: Emily has good knowledge of fascia, which is biology and explains well to the class what it is and what it does; here, I have written a translation of her teaching. I am Autistic and Schizophrenic, so when people tell me things, I translate them into my idea of the world to understand. My world is complex. Emily’s class helps me associate with reality. 🙂
